Looking for a fun Christmas Party for your team? Our November Public Skate Nights are a perfect way to kick start the holiday season!

Our Dearest, most Kickass Rolla community,

If anyone knows the power of roller skating best, it’s you.

The excitement of choosing your first pair of skates,  the determination in taking your first wobbly roll, the pride when you finally nail a skill you’ve been working on, the instant connection when you spot someone on quads and make your first skate friend, the sense of belonging when you find that piece of the skate community that feels like home, all those moments on wheels when you’ve thought to yourself, “I never thought I could do this”, yet here you are – doing the damn thing.

In spite of all the uncertainty of the pandemic, we were absolutely overjoyed to have been able to open our new location at Rollerland and offer skaters an indoor space to enjoy – somewhere that could hopefully take your mind off of all the bad while you took a few rounds around the rink, workshopped a new trick on the ramp, or took a look around the new Rollergirl Express shop. The last two years has seen a lot of change, and amongst all the chaos, rollerskating has been the joy.

We want to share the power and joy of rollerskating, and grant even more skaters access to the incredible Rollerland space through our re-launched Rollas Helping Rollas Subsidy Program!

What makes rollerskating so magical is the community of local skaters who bring their knowledge, their experiences, and their energy to each skating space, and with so many financial and societal barriers towards access, how do we continuously work towards granting more skaters access to safe, dry, indoor skate spaces year-round while supporting the facilities that help make that happen? One way to make this a reality is with the help of our incredible community members – like you.

How does it work?

We invite anyone who couldn’t otherwise afford rollerskating classes to apply – there are no tricky questionnaires or restrictions for who can access the program. The skater will pay 50% of the cost of participation; funds contributed by Rolla members will be 100% matched by Rolla Skate Club to cover the balance! The subsidy program can cover either our 4-week Rollerskating 101 course for new skaters, or a 4-pass Punch Card for returning folks.

Members with an Unlimited/VIP/Rink&Ramp membership will now be able to add one-time or recurring contributions of $5, $15, or $30 to the subsidy funds to their monthly membership payments.

So, think of how you’d be helping your fellow community members this way:

⚡ $5/month  when Rolla matches then one skater is sponsored in six months

⚡ $15/month  when Rolla matches then one skater is sponsored in four months

⚡ $30/month  when Rolla matches then one skater is immediately sponsored

Not a Rolla member? You can still make a difference with a one time donation!

The subsidy program is a testament to how incredible our local skate scene is, and how dedicated our community is to keeping each other skating. It’s how we continue to show up and look out for each other.

We are dedicated to giving 10 skaters a month access to Rollerland through the Rollas Helping Rollas Subsidy Program, and truly we are hoping to see even more skaters given access.

As a space that occupies and is teaching, learning, and skating on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples – the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, Rolla acknowledges that it has a duty to support the community’s needs and goals, and that the space and those around it work in ever-expanding learning, inclusivity, and representation. We envision a space where diverse events and workshops happen weekly.
